Kuda Lumping


Kuda Lumping or called Jathilan is a traditional dance that originated from Java, this dance featuring a group of soldiers on horseback. This dance uses a rocking horse made of woven bamboo and cut in the shape resembles a horse, the horse is then woven, painted and decorated with paint and colorful fabrics.

Kuda Lumping usually presents several attractions trance, immunity, and magical powers, like eating glass and attraction immunity against flogging whip. This is usually displayed on certain events, such as the welcome guest of honor, and in the course of thanks giving the intent is answered by the God. Before the performance begins, usually a handler will perform a ritual rain, to keep sunny weather it, because the show is usually done in the open field.

In the play, do not need special choreography, and the provision of equipment and Karawitan gamelan. Gamelan to accompany Kuda Lumping dance is quite simple, only consisting of kendang, kenong, gong and trumpet, flute sounding shrill. The poems are taken to accompany dance, usually containing an appeal for people who are always doing good deeds and always remember the God.
